Starting Out.
The other day, while taking the dog out for a walk, Catherine noticed a stray kitten sleeping near the front door. The kitten was curled up into a little ball trying to stay warm from the rain in the covered area of the porch. Hoshi gave it a good going over which didn’t seem to bother it at all. In fact, it started purring and sniffing the dogs nose. It didn’t seem to be hurting anything so Catherine decided to let the kitten have its nap and not bother it. It would probably be gone when she got back from their outing. Several hours later she arrived back home to find the kitten still hanging out on the porch. Not being a cold cruel person, she let it into the house to warm up.
It’s now several days later. The kitten is reigning supreme. My dog thinks it has a puppy and the kitten is sure it’s a dog. If we open the fridge the kitten will knock the dog over to get there first. It’s capable of eating an entire can of tuna, which makes it look like a garter snake that has eaten a goat. It has no problem play fighting with the dog who out weights it by about 69 pounds. It’s very out going and purrs if you happen to glance at it while walking past. It seems to really like our dog and follows it everywhere, including the yard when it’s pee time. We have been feeding it cat food, but it likes to crawl all the way into Hoshi’s bowl and eat the small pieces of dog kibble. It’s a strange sight to see the dog eating it’s food around the kitten.
I don’t like cats; in fact, you could say I’m one of those people who hates cats. I think they’re supposed to be food for dogs. Yet this kitten makes me rethink that. This is a big dog trapped in a kittens fuzzy little body. While I think this is probably the coolest cat I have come across, I just don’t think my dog is mature enough for its own pet.
So I’m offering it to anyone who will give it a good home. As you can see in the picture, it’s small, white with brown spots and female. It’s in good health but a bit skinny and could probably use a bath. It’s not the least bit shy or skittish. It would probably do well if it had a dog to play with.
UPDATE: The kitten has a name now. Joe Kickass.

Yeesh! I’m gone for a few months and suddenly you turn into Joe CatLovingPussy! You have got to get up here and drink that out of your system! Fast. Before you turn into a woman! heh…

RIP Joe. « DogFacedBoy said this on November 13, 2008 at 1:43 pm |
Joe was a great cat. He became my cat when he was about a year old. Over the last year and a half, Joe ruled the roost at my house and let the other cats in the neighborhood know who was boss. Especially his nemesis, the old marmalade cat who would invade the yard to sleep in the arbor. One of my neighbors even told me that Joe chased their dog, a golden retriever.
When I got a second cat to keep him company, Joe was especially vigilant in letting her know what her place was, although she was no wilting flower either. Surprisingly, Joe would often groom her and let her eat out of his food dish. He would also go eat out of her dish, so I guess they each thought they were getting one over on each other. Go figure.
In the early days, Joe was pretty quick to go on the offensive to let you know if he disapproved of your actions. He even got up in my greenhouse window and growled at some of my friends when they came to the front door. I think he actually did scare a few of them. Since then he’d mellowed out and became a loyal and loving kitty. He turned out to be a great cuddler too.
Joe always seemed like such a strong healthy cat that I thought he would live to a ripe old age, but it was not to be. It seemed that Joe had allergies/asthma and this week he had an extremely severe attack from which he could not recover. I took him to 3 different vets and none of them was able to save him. So it is with great sadness that I say goodbye to Joe. He was a great cat and will be missed.
